Our Aims & Principles

PRIMARY AIMS AND PRINCIPLES

IN THE IMMEDIATE TERM

  • To establish Ein Gwlad as a political party and movement that will speak up for and defend all those living in Wales, their communities, and the wider national interest.

  • To defend and develop the linguistic, cultural and historical heritage unique to Wales, which have given Wales its identity.

  • To stand for and promote the unity of Wales while also recognising the regional and other variations that give Wales its character and its strength.

  • To argue strongly for all parts of Wales to be treated fairly and equally in terms of economic development and other ways.

  • To encourage people who share these ambitions to join Ein Gwlad and take the party, and our country, forward.

IN THE MEDIUM TERM

  • We shall build up Ein Gwlad into a force for change, by questioning and challenging anything which damages Welsh interests while proposing initiatives and strategies to benefit Wales and her people.

  • Given the woeful combination of bias and inadequacy characterising the Welsh media, Ein Gwlad will use the media of the twenty-first century to take its message to our people and – given the nature of that media – the wider world.

  • Ein Gwlad will focus on Wales and will not waste its energies on issues in faraway lands that – however tragic – we cannot influence; nor will we involve ourselves with UK issues that are deemed to be of little or no relevance to Wales.

  • Ein Gwlad will contest elections. There are community council seats waiting to be filled, there are regular by-elections to our local authorities, and by the next elections to the Welsh Assembly in 2021 we plan to field a full slate of candidates for both constituency and regional seats. Ein Gwlad will not contest elections to the imperial parliament at Westminster.

  • To establish Ein Gwlad as a major political force.

IN THE LONGER TERM

  • Ein Gwlad seeks the establishment of an independent state of Cymru acting in the interests of its citizens and no-one else. A state governed by the provisions of a written Constitution that regards and treats all citizens as equal.

  • The citizens of Cymru will be answerable to no other authority on earth but the government they themselves have elected, and will be bound only by laws made in their name by their government.

  • A re-born Cymru that will have control over all the built and natural resources within the national territory and territorial waters.

  • Wherein the government will deliver equal opportunities and benefits to all its citizens in education, health, self-improvement and other spheres.

  • After many centuries of what is akin to exile, we Welsh will be ‘home’, no longer vilified, exploited and marginalised in our own land. A great injustice will finally have been righted.

And YOU can make it happen by joining Ein Gwlad

OUR MISSION & VISION

OUR AIMS are:

  • INDEPENDENCE: To establish a free, sovereign and independent Welsh state.

  • ACCOUNTABILITY: To secure a government democratically accountable to the people of Wales.

  • PROSPERITY: To bring about a flourishing Welsh economy in which all citizens have the opportunity to prosper, with enterprise and hard work being properly rewarded.

  • DISTINCTIVENESS: To secure a future for our national language, distinctive heritage, traditions and culture.

  • INTERNATIONALISM: To see Wales take its proper place among the community of nations, fostering good relations and mutually beneficial economic links with other states around the world.

OUR PRINCIPLES AND VALUES are grounded in:

  • COMMUNITY: Civic pride, social inclusion and solidarity between all members of our national community. As citizens of a small country, working together comes easily to us.

  • LIBERTY: Individual liberty and equality before the law, underpinned by an independent Welsh judiciary and system of law courts subject to the general principles of Common Law.

  • INCLUSIVITY: We affirm our commitment to the common good of all citizens of Wales who are loyal to our country and respect our national identity, whatever their ethnic, linguistic, religious or geographical background may be.

  • RESPECT: We assert our respect and esteem for our English, Scottish, and Irish neighbours, and believe that good relations are best fostered and maintained between free and equal nation states.

  • RADICALISM: We shall seek radical, pragmatic solutions to the economic and social issues facing contemporary Wales, evaluating ideas according to whether they will benefit Wales and her people – not according to where they come from, whether so-called left wing or right wing. We are a syncretic party that does not recognise the traditional single-axis left, centre or right wing labelling paradigm.

  • COURAGE: We shall not flinch from confronting the scale of the problems that Wales faces, since only when problems are faced honestly can they be overcome. We shall be open with each other and the nation at large about what needs to be done.

  • CREATIVITY: Wales is known across the world as a creative nation where words mean everything. We mean to unleash that power for the good of our economy and our communities.

  • PERSEVERANCE: The fact that Wales exists at all in the 21st Century is testament to our ability to fight against the odds and find a way through. We shall not be easily deterred from making our case and standing for what we believe in.

  • BROGARWCH: The English language lacks a way of easily expressing the meaning of this word: it is a love of place, a commitment to our land and people, yet untainted by jingoism or chauvinism. We love our country, and are determined to make it the best that it can be.

WE ARE COMMITTED to conducting our internal business, communications and dealings in a spirit of tolerance, inclusivity and respect, consistent always with the Aims and Values of the party.

The Party’s governance, proceedings, and policy formulation shall be conducted at all times in accordance with the Aims and Principles set out above.
