Gwyrdd eu gwedd ond coch eu hanian

Caroline Lucas, Leader of Green Party- not a great response to her idea of an all-female cabinet of “national unity”

Erthygl Gymraeg. English language version below

GYDA Brexit ar ein gwarthau a neb fawr callach sut beth fydd ei hyd a’i led o hyd, mae hynny yn ei dro yn rhoi lle a chyfle ar gyfer datganiadau carlamus o sawl math.

Ond dim byd cweit mor ddramatig efallai ag ymdrech Caroline Lucas, Arweinydd Y Blaid Werdd yr wythnos hon i gynnig ateb i’r sefyllfa ddyrys hon: sef creu cabinet o “undod cenedlaethol” a fyddai’n cynnwys merched yn unig.

Roedd y cabinet o ferched a awgrymodd Caroline Lucas hefyd yn cynnwys  un aelod seneddol Cymreig, sef Liz Saville Roberts o Blaid Cymru- er nad ydi’n glir iawn oedd hi ei hun yn gefnogol i’r syniad hwn.

Ond doedd fawr o dderbyniad i’r syniad yn gyffredinol, gydag elfennau o’r chwaeroliaeth eu hunain ymhlith y cyntaf i gwyno amdano, gan mai dim ond merched gwyn a enwyd gan Caroline Lucas yn ei chabinet.

Arweinydd y Gwyrddion yn gorfod rhwyfo nol

Cwyn arall a leisiwyd gan rai ohonynt oedd y diffyg merched traws yn y tim a fyddai’n cael ei arwain, yn ddigon naturiol gan Ms Lucas ei hun.

Roedd peth o’r ymateb i’r diffygion hyn yn reit ffyrnig  a dweud y lleiaf  a bu’n rhaid i Caroline Lucas, syrthio ar ei bai yn wyneb yr ymosodiadau hyn gan ei chyd-deithwyr.

A welwyd gwell enghraifft o’r “disconnect” presennol rhwng be sy’n ymddangos yn syniad da i wleidyddion yn eu echo-chambers eu hunain yn San Steffan a’r farn gyffredinol ar lawr gwlad?

.Er y rhwyfo nol ganddi wedyn, y syniad sylfaenol a fynegwyd gan Caroline Lucas oedd bod rhinwedd a doethineb a chrebwyll yn dod yn awtomatig i  rai unigolion a hynny oherwydd eu bod nhw’n ferched.

Doethineb a chrebwyll yn perthyn i un rhyw yn unig?

Ac y byddai’r holl rinweddau hyn  ar waith mewn ‘cabinet cenedlaethol’ yn llawer rhagorach na’r cawlach cyffredinol a welwyd yma ers 2016.

Be’ ar wyneb y ddaear ddigwyddodd i’r syniad hwnnw bod rhinwedd, doethineb,  a chrebwyll yn gallu nodweddu dynion a merched fel ei gilydd mewn bywyd?.

Yn ogystal ag annoethineb, diffyg crebwyll a diffyg rhinwedd ar brydiau hefyd ymhlith y naill a’r llall

Yr union reswm pam fod rhaid i aelodau’r cyhoedd gadw llygad barcud ar wleidyddion trwy’r amser, boed nhw’n ddynion neu’n ferched.

Yn amlwg, ddaru Ms Lucas erioed ddarllen llinellau anfarwol y bardd R. Williams Parry. Cyfaddefiad personol gan y bardd, ond geiriau perthnasol i’r ddau ryw fel ei gilydd: ‘Rwy’ n wych, rwy’n wael, rwy’n gymysg oll i gyd’.

Efallai dylai Liz Saville Roberts gynnig copi, a chyfieithiad o’r gerdd iddi.

Plaid sy’n cynnwys llawer o “ideologues”

Ond mae datganiad Caroline Lucas hefyd yn tynnu ein sylw at elfen broblemus sy’n perthyn i’r Blaid Werdd yn gyffredinol- hynny ydi eu bod yn dueddol o gynnwys llawer o “ideologues“- pobol sy’n gosod ideoleg uwchlaw popeth.

Ideoleg uwchlaw synnwyr cyffredin ac uwchlaw realities bywyd i bobol gyffredin yn amlach na pheidio, ynghyd ag ryw olwg du a gwyn iawn ar bethau.

Mae rhai sylwebwyr eisoes yn awgrymu bod rhai gwyrddion cyfoes yn debyg i ddyfr felon( water-melon).Hynny ydi, yn wyrdd ar y tu allan, ond yn goch ar y tu fewn.

Hynny ydi, eu bod nhw’n dechrau ymdebygu i ideoleg arall o’r gorffennol a fu hefyd yn awdurdodol iawn wrth reoli ymddygiad a dewisiadau pobol yn y gorffennol yn enw achos uwch.

Gellid dadlau wrth gwrs fod y gymhariaeth hon gyda chochion gwaedlyd y gorffennol yn hollol amhriodol.

Wedi’r cwbl byddai’r rhan fwyaf o bobol resymol yn cytuno bod syniad sylfaenol y Gwyrddion- sef gofalu am ein daear a’n hamgylchedd naturiol yn bwysig iawn heddiw.

Mae pawb yn gallu gweld bod yna broblemau pendant sydd angen sylw- y llygredd yn ein hafonydd a’n moroedd fel un enghraifft amlwg iawn.

Mae yna sylweddoliad cynyddol hefyd ynghylch pa mor anghynaladwy yw consumerism rhemp y gymdeithas gyfoes.

Annog euogrwydd ymhlith unigolion

Ond, mae yna elfennau problemus ym mheth o feddylfryd y Gwyrddion. Un o’r rhai pennaf yw’r “Oikophobia” hwn sy’n cael ei ei hyrwyddo ganddyn nhw bellach, sef annog math o euogrwydd a hyd yn oed casineb at eu cymdeithas ein hunain ymhlith pobol- am achosi’r holl broblemau hinsawdd a welir yn ein byd cyfoes.

Gyda’r hunan-gasineb hwn wedyn yn fodd i baratoi pobol ar gyfer mesurau llym ac i gael eu trethu’n drwm gyda threthi carbon i leihau lefelau Co2 yn yr amgylchedd-eu cosb am achosi hyn i ddigwydd.

Beth bynnag yw’r gwir am newid hinsawdd- ac mae’n sefyll i reswm fod yr hinsawdd wastad yn newid – go brin bod annog pobol i hunan-gasau eu cymdeithas a’u rol nhw eu hunain o fewn y gymdeithas honno yn beth seicolegol iach o gwbwl.

Gyda’r syniadau hyn yn aml yn cael eu hwrjo gan griw o bobol sy’n moesoli ac yn honni eu bod yn gwybod yn well na phawb arall. Bron nad oes modd ei weld fel ‘crefydd’ newydd yr oes seciwlar hon.

Un o’r rhai sydd wedi tynnu sylw at y duedd hon i foesoli gyda materion fel hyn yw’r awdur Ffrengig, Christopher Guillay.

Yn ei lyfr Twighlight of the Elites’, mae’r awdur yn cyfeirio at fudiad y Gilets Jaunes yn Ffrainc a’r bwlch anferthol rhwng y Ffrainc Ymylol a’r Ffrainc Ddinesig heddiw.

Dywed fod y terfysg parhaus yn Ffrainc wedi ei danio gan bemderfyniad yr Arlywydd Macron i osod trethi carbon ar drigolion Ffrainc, gan ddwysau holl broblemau trigolion y Ffrainc Wledig, oedd eisoes wedi cael llond bol ar globaleiddio, a’r tocio parhaus ar wasanaethau yn yr ardaloedd gwledig yno

Sonia’r awdur am y ‘bobos’ sy’n moesoli am yr amgylchedd a materion eraill o’u citadels dinesig, gan osod eu hunain yn foesol well ac yn fwy goleuedig na thrigolion cefn gwlad.

A’r rhagoriaeth hwn i’w weld yn eu pwyslais ar ‘identity politics’, globaleiddio ac wrth gwrs yr angen am drethi carbon i ‘achub’ y blaned.

A hynny yn ol yr awdur yn ffurf ar “reolaeth gymdeithasol” lem dros y rhai hynny sy’n ddigon  anffodus I gael eu u heithrio rhag rhagoriaethau bywyd dinesig.

Falle y dylai Caroline Lucas feddwl am gynnwys y llyfr hwn ar ei rhestr o lyfrau gwyliau yr haf hwn. .

Ac efallai hefyd y dylai unrhyw blaid sy’n meddwl closio at y Blaid Werdd ail-ystyried rol y saga fach hon.

Sylw GWLAD: Mi rydan ni yn hapus iawn i ddatgan nad ‘ideologues‘ fel hyn  ydan ni. Mae rheiny yr un mor berig boed nhw’n dod o’r chwith neu’r dde fel ei gilydd. Yn ferched neu yn ddynion!

Yn hytach, atebion ymarferol a phragmataidd a gynigwn ni, yn seiliedig ar anghenion Cymru ei hun. Nid pethau sy’n plesio pobol ddylanwadol o’r naill ochr wleidyddol neu’r llall yn y bubble anferth hwnnw yn San Steffan.

Nac ychwaith achosion sy’n ffasiynol ymhlith y “chattering classes” metropolitan heddiw.

The Greens’ red flirtation

WITH Brexit fast approaching and the exact shape of that event still so unclear, dramatic predictions and pronouncements from politicians are now ten a penny.

But none as astonishing perhaps as the idea proposed by the Green Party’s Leader, Caroline Lucas this week- that the answer to this vexing situation is to set up a political cabinet of “national unity”– composed of women alone.

Her dream-team female cabinet also included Welsh MP Liz Saville Roberts- although it is unclear whether the representative for Meirion-Dwyfor was actually in favour of such a  move.

Not much unity behind Green leader’s idea

The idea soon floundered, not least because of the howls of protest from elements of the sisterhood that the new cabinet was only made up of white women alone.

Another complaint made by her fellow travellers was that no trans women were included in the line-up. The responses to her lack of foresight in this respect  were vitriolic on social media and displayed once more the tiring oneupmanship that seems so associated with modern identity politics.

It brought to mind the observation of former US President Barack Obama that elements of the left sometimes resemble a circular firing squad.

One wag did manage to lighten the mood somewhat by pointing out that some canny male politicians could actually gatecrash the party by self-identifying as women.

Caroline Lucas had to beat a hasty retreat and later apologised for her statement.

But the damage was done. If anything summed up the chasm that now exists between some politicians in their echo-chambers and the views of the population at large, well this was it.

Virtue, wisdom and insight the preserve of one sex only?

Despite the rowing back, Lucas’s  basic premise was that virtue, wisdom and insight are the sole preserve of those individuals who happen to be female.

Furthermore, these virtues would serve all of us much much better than the confusion and mayhem(ahem)served up here since 2016.

Whatever happened to the old idea that virtue, wisdom and insight could be exercised equally by both men and women?

As well as the understanding that vice, foolishness and lack of insight in turn are an equally distinguishing feature of both sexes?

Which in turn should alert all of us to the fact that all politicians, of whatever gender have to be watched like hawks!

Caroline Lucas obviously is unaware of the famous lines of the noted Welsh poet, R. Williams Parry

:’Rwy’n wych, rwy’n wael, rwy’n gymysg oll i gyd'(I’m wonderful, I’m awful, i just don’t know where I am’.

Maybe Liz Saville Roberts could lend her a copy of the poem?

A party made up of ideologues

But Caroline Lucas’s statement was also problematic on a deeper level since it showed a general tendency within the Green Party to be made up of  individuals who lean towards being ideologues.

That is, individuals who place ideology and the requirements of that ideology above common sense, and the realities of life for most ordinary people. It involves absolutist thinking, and a rigidity of mind which can be quite alarming at time.

Indeed, some commentators are suggesting that some modern Green adherents are like watermelons. That is, green on the outside and red on the inside.

Control agenda of the Green and the Red alike

That the increasing Green desire to control people’s behaviour and choices in life resemble a red ideology in the past which similarly strove to control and police individuals in the name of a greater cause.

Now it could be argued that linking the Green cause to the murderous red ideology of the past is a gross over-statement.

After all, most reasonable people would concur with the basic premise of the Green movement that we should be responsible stewards of our environment and earth.

Everybody can see the need to tackle pollution in our rivers and seas for example, and there’s a growing realisation as well that our present consumerist lifestyle can’t be sustained or justified either.

Even so, there are elements within the Green Party which are problematic. One of the most serious is this sense of Oikophobia they are seeking to instill in people. Oikophobia means ‘hate of home’ and a sense of guilt and self-reproach about that home, i.e a community or nation.

Which seems to be a means of softening people up for some draconian measures and swingeing carbon taxes as punishment for their transgressions, i.e contributing to climate change.

And the word transgressions doesn’t seem out of place considering that that the green movement seems to be some form of new “religion” for our secular age.

A new religion for a secular age

But whatever the worries are about climate change- and it seems self-evident that the climate is always changing- it doesn’t seem a psychologically sound tactic to shame people and to make them hate their own societies.

One of those who has written about this moralizing tendency and its dangers  is the French author Christopher Guillay in his new book ‘Twilight of the Elites’.

In the book, the author refers to the growing gap between the flourishing cities of France and La France Profonde    the rural periphery-which has been the driving force of the continuing Gillets Jaunes protest movement there.

Carbon tax the final straw for rural France

Guillay says that the carbon tax(to reduce Co2 levels) imposed by French President Emmanuel Macron was the final straw for the citizens of rural France fed up of seeing their communities and local services being decimated by the effects of globalisation.

He refers to what he calls the ‘Bobos’ : the well-off people in what he calls the citadels of modern France who are no longer content just to be richer than their rural counterparts-but who now see themselves to be morally superior to them as well.

With this sense of superiority marked out by by their enthusiasm for identity politics, globalisation, and the need for carbon taxes to ‘save’ the climate.  Guillay states this to be a form of severe “social control” over all those unfortunate enough to live outside the citadels of modern France, reinforced by the media and other vested interests.

Caroline Lucas would perhaps do well to top up her holiday reading list with this particular book.

And any other political parties seeking to cosy up to the Green Party would perhaps like to think again about the wisdom of such a scenario in the wake of this week’s fiasco.

GWLAD comments: We are very happy to reaffirm that we are not a party of ideologues, be that of the left variety or the right variety. Be that led by men or women!

Rather, we seek practical and pragmatic solutions to Wales’s problems based solely  on the realities of life here in Wales today.

Not what pleases influential players within the Westminster bubble or whatever happens to be fashionable amongst the metropolitan chattering classes who hold such sway over people’s opinions nowadays.
